Association Development Coordinator

Alexandria, VA

FosterThomas, Inc. is a leading Human Capital Management Firm. We are seeking an Association Development Coordinator to assist our client who is based out of Alexandria, VA. This opportunity offers a competitive compensation and benefits package. This position is full time, permanent and virtual for the pandemic.

Bring your non-profit association experience to the National Security Space Association (NSSA). This position will provide general support across a variety of tasks, including membership development, member relations, communications, and event planning.

NSSA (www.nssaspace.org) is a non-profit support association solely dedicated to the National Security Space enterprise. NSSA works to advance long-term cooperation among industry and government, leading the way with expert opinion, insight and analysis. This position is part of the support contract that Velos (www.velosteam.com) has with NSSA.
Prior experience in non-profits, corporate membership associations, or the national security space industry is required.
Membership Development

  • Conduct research to identify potential industry partners.

  • Outreach and scheduling membership meetings with NSSA leadership

  • Develop relationships with potential and current industry partners

  • Coordinate renewals with existing members

  • Serve as POC for member questions

Event Planning

  • Planning for in-person and virtual events at both unclassified and classified level

  • Support all event logistics activities to include: working with venues, list management, invitations, RSVP management, and on-site support.

  • Support planning and presentations for Board of Advisors and Board of Directors meetings

  • Coordinate student lecture series logistics for workforce development programs


  • Work with communications team on social media outreach

  • Support media outreach and cultivating media contact relationships

  • Support weekly email newsletter

Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelors' degree in business, communications, marketing, or related field

  • 2+ years of relevant experience

  • Experience with corporate membership associations or national security space industry

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Motivated, self-starter, who can work with little supervision

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to consistently attend to details and meet deadlines

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills

  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to build effective working relationships

  • Intellectual curiosity with desire to learn and immediately apply learnings to make decisions

  • Demonstrate critical thinking, sound judgment, ability to manage multiple priorities
