Outreach/Communications Manager

FosterThomas, Inc. is a leading HR Management and Consulting firm. We are seeking an Outreach/Communications Manager to assist our client out of their Washington, DC location. This is a full time, permanent position and may be done virtually. The Outreach/Communications Manager to support the Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP). The GRFP is to help ensure the vitality and diversity of the scientific and engineering workforce in the United States. The Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) is a National Science Foundation-wide program that provides Fellowships to individuals selected early in their graduate careers based on their demonstrated potential for significant research achievements in science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) or in STEM education.
Location: Remote work with ability to keep up with Eastern Standard Time Zone
The Outreach Manager is responsible for the oversight of all outreach activities for the GRFP
including the following:
  • Cultivation of external partnerships to facilitate recruitment of both reviewers and potential applicants, with a focus on institutions and individuals historically underrepresented in STEM
    • Identify opportunities for new outreach events that will broaden the reviewer and applicant pools to institutions and populations historically underrepresented in STEM
    • Coordinate with the team members to send GRFP promotional materials to identified contacts (e.g., listservs, university contacts)
  • Develop and update outreach materials, including presentations, videos, and promotional communications
  • Lead and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to coordinate, promote, and host outreach events
  • Identify relevant professional groups and listservs
  • Develop and submit conference proposals and registrations for identified events
  • Identify opportunities for new outreach events that will broaden the reviewer and applicant pools to institutions and populations historically underrepresented in STEM
  • Evaluate and analys outreach efforts and broaden the use of data to inform and improve outreach efforts over time
  • Identify and track outreach KPIs
  • Expand outreach efforts to institutions and populations historically underrepresented in STEM
  • Track effectiveness of outreach events over time
  • Ensure compliance with federal government guidelines

Required Qualifications
  1. Advanced Graduate Degree
  2. 5 - 7 years previous experience in a role focused on outreach targeting underserved populations, including minority institutions and organizations
  3. Comfort with Technology and data driven
  4. Responsive to emails and phone calls
  5. Excellent meeting facilitation skills, including the ability to effectively present information to a wide variety of audiences
  6. Excellent interpersonal and communications skills
  7. Expertise in mixed-methods data collection and analysis
  8. Excellent writer
  9. Creative and Innovative
  10. Strong project planning and organizational competency
  11. Expertise with Microsoft Suite and other standard professional software
