Director of Payroll

FosterThomas, Inc. is a leading HR Management and Consulting firm. We are seeking a Director of Payroll to support our client out of their Northwest Chicago, Ill location. This is a full time and permanent position. The Director of Payroll will oversee and supervise the organization’s payroll functions to ensure timely, accurate, and compliant administration of payroll, including hands-on management of systems and processes to ensure best practices in employee experience and administration.   

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Duties/Responsibilities:

Payroll Administration
  • Implements, maintains, and reviews payroll processing systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions
  • Perform full-cycle US payroll processing and assist with exempt and non-exempt payroll transactions on a periodic basis
  • Process off-cycle payments for terminations by timely preparing and administering final checks within state regulatory guidelines
  • Facilitates internal/external payroll audits and compliance reporting including 401(k) and Workers Compensation
  • Ensures accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates
  • Prepares and maintains accurate records and reports of payroll transactions
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices
  • Identifies and recommends updates to payroll processing software, systems, and procedures
  • Periodically assists with maintaining the payroll inbox by answering payroll inquiries from employees, management and internal business partners

Stock Administration  
  • Calculate equity related employee compensation including regular income and gains from RSU grants in compliance with current US tax regulations and requirements
  • Perform other duties and projects related to the equity programs as required
 

Required Skills/Abilities:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Human Resources, or related field required.
  • 10+ years experience with payroll and stock plan administration
 

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times
