Director of PMO

The Director, PMO is an integral part of the Professional Services team, contributing to our success by providing leadership to the Project Management Office in all phases of the implementation cycle for our clients suite of Human Capital Management applications. The Director, PMO will be responsible for the developing and refining the tools, process, and training for the Client facing Project Management teams. The Director, PMO will also be responsible for defining project management standards that are consistent across all Project Management teams so that the client experience is consistent. This position will be responsible for the overall guidance and professional development of all project management roles within the organization.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Interviews, hires, and participates in the onboarding of new staff.
  • Oversee the day-to-day workflow of the department.
  • Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations. Makes recommendations for promotions and compensation changes.
  • Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.
  • Distributes and prioritizes work for resources within the department.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Align and mange department resources to support company objectives
  • Ensures projects are completed according to plan and SOW. 
  • Ensures that billable projects remain on schedule and within budget. 
  • Manages overall PMO / Project Management organization financials and project profitability including resource scheduling, revenue forecasting per project, billing reconciliations, expense reports and time approval for project work, etc. 
  • Exercises risk and issue management.
  • Manage daily operations activities and planning to maximize revenue opportunities and minimize unplanned costs.
  • Monitor and optimize project budget, backlogs and other departmental KPIs
  • Draft, review and approve statements of work and other professional services engagement documents
  • Develop and mature PMO processes, standards, tools, and deliverables that will enable the project management team to deliver successful services projects while ensuring scalability and alignment with business objectives
  • Build a project management team that is diverse, high-performing, and receptive to organizational changes, goals, and priorities.
  • Act as a point of escalation for any project related activities within the Professional Services organization
  • Provide the project managers and other reporting team members guidance, thought leadership and mentorship to continue to grow and develop project management talent.
  • Maintain and effectively apply a strong knowledge of technologies related to project delivery and operations
  • Collaborates with sales teams in pre-sales activities such as project sizing and cost estimates and contract reviews.
  • Develop and document internal SOPs for PMO department and SLAs with 
  • Plan and manage multiple internal projects along with client projects at any given time. 
  • Create positive and productive workplace environment by providing and contributing to overall team morale through motivation and team building


  • Lead projects and teams to directly drive positive customer outcomes in complex, multi-stakeholder programs, and customer initiatives
  • Ability to manage all facets of project management including planning, implementation, delivery, and closeout 
  • Ability to synthesize complex information and documentation
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to work under tight deadlines, often with time and resource constraints while providing adequate attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including patience, flexibility, consideration, discretion, tact, confidence, and effectiveness in dealing with people
  • Ability to clearly communicate thoughts and ideas in person, over the telephone, and in written correspondence
  • Proficiency in MS office applications. Ability to efficiently manipulate data using Excel both for internal usability and external presentation is a must
  • Excellent analytical, logical, presentation and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong business acumen and organization leadership skills; assertive and diplomatic; self-directing; able to manage up and down the organization with influence; willing to hold others accountable
  • Ability to Travel as required 

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Statistics, Information Technology, or Project Management.
  • 10+ years of experience in project and program management, with increasing levels of responsibility.
  • 6+ years of People Management experience
  • 5+ years proven ability to build and lead teams through change/transformation initiatives.
  • Experience in process development and project management principles leading to improved outcomes
  • Experience in managing project using Agile and traditional SDLC methodologies a plus
  • Project management certification (PMP) and/or formal coursework/training in project management strongly preferred
  • Experience with Human Resources, Time & Attendance, Scheduling, Payroll or similar software systems application is preferred.
