Senior Accountant

FosterThomas, Inc. is a leading Human Capital Management Firm. We are assisting our client in their search for a Senior Accountant. This person plays a crucial role in managing the financial aspects, supporting strategic decision-making, and optimizing the organization’s manufacturing operations. They will be responsible for overseeing various accounting functions, ensuring accurate financial reporting, effective cost management, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and contributing to the overall financial health of the organization.
This role requires a strong understanding of accounting principles, attention to detail, analytical skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

  • Financial Reporting
    • Prepare and analyze financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
    • Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and company policies.
    • Assist in the preparation of monthly and annual financial reports for management and overseas Group reporting.
  • General Ledger Management
    • Maintain the general ledger by reconciling accounts, posting journal entries, and ensuring accuracy of financial data.
    • Review and analyze account balances, identifying discrepancies, and resolving issues as needed.
    • Ensure timely and accurate month-end and year-end closing processes.
  • Cost Accounting
    • Collaborate with the operations team to collect, analyze, and allocate manufacturing costs.
    • Assist in the development of cost standards and monitor actual costs against established standards.
    • Provide insights into cost variances and make recommendations for cost control and efficiency improvements.
  • Inventory Management
    • Monitor and reconcile inventory records, including raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods.
    • Perform periodic inventory counts and audits to ensure accuracy of physical counts and system records.
    • Analyze inventory levels and turnover, making recommendations for optimization.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting
    • Contribute to the annual budgeting and forecasting process by providing accurate financial data and insights.
    • Monitor budget-to-actual performance, identify trends and deviations, and provide explanations as needed.
  • Audit and Compliance
    • Assist in the preparation of audit schedules and support external auditors during the annual audit process.
    • Ensure compliance with tax regulations, reporting requirements, and other financial obligations.
  • Process Improvement
    • Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes, enhance controls, and improve efficiency.
    • Participate in system implementations or upgrades related to accounting and finance.
  • Team Collaboration
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including finance, operations, and procurement, to gather and analyze financial data.
    • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior members of the accounting team.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Required education and experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field; CPA designation preferred.
  • Proven experience (5+ years) in accounting roles, preferably within manufacturing or related industry.
Competencies
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, cost accounting principles, and financial analysis.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems; Ross experience a plus.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills for data analysis and reporting.
  • Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills for cross-functional collaboration.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize responsibilities, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong ethics and integrity in handling financial data and confidential information.
 Work environment 
  • This job operates in a professional office environment.
  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and scanners.
  • This is a full-time position. Work is conducted mainly in the office, with some flexibility to work from home when necessary. 
Physical demands
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 20 pounds at times.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
