FosterThomas, Inc. is a leading Human Capital Management Firm. We are assisting our client in their search for a Controller/Director of Finance. This role oversees the accounting and human resources operations of the business and has overall fiduciary responsibility. As a key member of Senior Leadership, the Director of Finance will report to the President/CEO and assume a strategic role in the overall management of the company. This opportunity is full-time and on-site out of the Linthicum Heights, MD office.

  • Develops financial well-being of the organization by providing financial projections and accounting services, preparing growth plans, and directing staff.
  • Develops finance organizational strategies by contributing financial and accounting information, analysis, and recommendations to strategic thinking and direction and establishes functional objectives in line with organizational objectives.
  • Develops organization prospects by studying economic trends and revenue opportunities; analyzing organization operations; identifying opportunities for improvement, cost reduction, and systems enhancement; and accumulating capital to fund expansion.
  • Monitors financial performance by measuring and analyzing results, initiating corrective actions, and minimizing the impact of variances.
  • Reviews customer contracts and establishes customer credit terms.
  • Oversees, mentors, and directs the work of all accounting department personnel and ensures the completion of timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Oversees and mentors the HR business functions by utilizing strong meeting and project planning practices to drive focus and results. 
  • Updates job knowledge by remaining aware of new regulations, participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations.
  • Take handson lead position of developing, implementing, and maintaining a comprehensive cost accounting system.
  • Direct and oversee all aspects of risk management and material management.
  • Ensure all tax returns are completed, signed, and filed appropriately.
  • Oversee the third-party CPA firm services including, tax fillings, reviewed financial statements and ERISA audits.
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in progressively responsible financial leadership roles.10+ years' experience with progressive management responsibilities in the distribution industry in a high-paced, rapid growth environment. 
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, or equivalent experience.  An MBA or Master's is a plus.
  • Certified Public Accountant certification is preferred.
  • Understanding and prior experience managing Finance and HR business functions.
  • Strong working knowledge and proficiency with ERP systems, spreadsheets, and power BI.
  • Prior experience leading an organization through time-sensitive projects and managing the process through completion.
  • Proven experience building budgets, EBITDA forecasts and cash forecasts to guide and support executive management decision making.
  • Solid GAAP and financial reporting technical skills.
