Job summary
This is a hands-on role for a UX/UI professional with 5+ years of experience who actively designs, prototypes, and delivers real, production-ready web experiences. This is not a conceptual-only position; the selected candidate will be expected to execute, ship, and support live digital products. The ideal candidate will collaborate with product managers, developers, and other stakeholders to translate user needs and mission goals into elegant, user-friendly solutions that comply with federal security and accessibility standards.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate closely with product managers and developers to define and validate business requirements, then rapidly iterate to create a project vision.
• Communicate the intended experience through artifacts such as concept maps, user flows, storyboards, wireframes, interactive prototypes, and design specifications.
• Work directly with engineering teams to ensure pixel-accurate implementation, design system alignment, and measurable outcomes.
• Defend design choices using previous user research, heuristics, and established usability standards.
• Plan and execute validation activities, including user research and usability testing, to ensure a delightful and effective user experience.
• Ensure all designs strictly adhere to federal accessibility standards, including WCAG and Section 508 compliance.
• Actively participate in Agile development activities, including sprint planning and ticket management in Jira.

Required qualifications
Professional experience & skills

• Bachelor's degree in UX Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Graphic Design, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• 5+ years of professional UI/UX design experience.
• A strong portfolio demonstrating user-centered design solutions for both web and mobile platforms.
• Practical experience across the full UX lifecycle: discovery, UX research, information architecture, interaction design, and high-fidelity UI design.
• Expertise in Figma; proficiency in other standard design and prototyping tools (e.g., Sketch, Adobe XD, InVision).
• Deep knowledge of Section 508 compliance and accessibility best practices.

Government & security requirements

• Must be a U.S. Citizen.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust security clearance.

Preferred skills

• UX certification from a recognized organization (e.g., Nielsen Norman Group (NN/g), Interaction Design Foundation (IxDF)).
• Experience designing for military, federal, or other regulated environments.
• Knowledge of front-end fundamentals (HTML, CSS) to effectively collaborate with developers.
